Marrakech

Imperial city and emblem of Morocco (it gave it the name) abroad, Marrakech is a medieval city which counts more than one million inhabitants and remain since always, the tourism capital. Marrakech (third city of the kingdom) is located at 150 miles from Casablanca, 207 miles from Rabat and at 310 miles from Fes. Marrakech is called the red city because of the grounds colors of all the buildings and houses.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGE IN MOROCCO

The official language in Morocco is Arabic, but the majority of people speak French or have at least some concepts.

TAXIS IN MARRAKECH

If you do not want to use public transport (far from expensive and served rather well), take the taxis, but require the meter that some forget even if this practice is less and less current. The prices are very cheap (compared to europe for example). The Small Taxis cannot leave Marrakech. the night fallen the price is legally increased by 50% but often the race should be negotiated, especially at the exits of the discotheques. For your longer displacements, out of Marrakech, you will have to take the Large Taxis (price to be negotiated).

If you want to visit Marrakech or its surroundings, there are true guides (with their badges) and the fake guides who approach you with a banal discussion (to be avoided because the police force pursues them). To count 200 dirhams per day.

TIME ZONES IN MOROCCO

In many pharmacies of Marrakech, one finds about all the usual drugs . The private hospitals are of a good comfort and professional general practitioners. Be wary of the insolations. Side food and Moroccan specialities, there are no risks.

SHOPING IN MOROCCO

All the prices are debatable (except in certain announced shops). Will be able to negotiate, trade, appreciate, take your time and remain calm. Be wary of very expensive "antiquities" and to avoid the copies (Lacoste, Rolex, etc...) which could cause you trouble at the european airports.

TIPS IN MOROCCO

DRIVING IN MARRAKECH

Control is very special in Marrakech. Between the buses, the cars, the Motobikes, the bikes, it is always necessary to be concentrated on the road. The roads are good and maintained though sometimes very narrow (Médina). Obligatory belt in the city. Speed of 40 km/h.
Circulation is a bit difficult in Marrakech medina, especially in the night.
